Overeater's anonymous is a 12 Step program patterned after Alcoholics Anonymous.  The primary purpose of OA is to help members abstain from overeating
one day at a time.

By admitting our inability to control compulsive overeating in the past, and by abandoning the idea that all we need to be able to eat normally is "a little willpower," it becomes possible to for us abstain from overeating -
one day at a time

Is OA a diet club?
OA is not a diet club, and makes no claims for weight loss.  The concept of abstinence is the basis of OA's program of recovery.

Who attends OA Meetings?
In OA you'll find members who are extremely overweight, moderately overweight, average weight and underweight.  Some of us still maintain periodic control over our eating behavior and some of us are totally unable to control our compulsive overeating.

Who are members of OA?
You will find members who have been coming to OA meetings for years or for a few months.  You will also find members who have been relieved of the compulsion to overeat for many years.

What happens at an OA meeting?
In a typical OA meeting on Maui, you'll find anywhere from 5-10 members in attendance.  Confidentiality is essential.  What is said in the rooms stays in the rooms.
